About the blog

The purpose of this blog, begun July 24th, 2007,  is to entertain friends and keep them up to date on our goings on as Joy and I move to Quito, Ecuador and work on “living life to the fullest” there. 1. Hi Joy and Luke: Debbie G. forwarded the link to your blog. We had talked on the phone before you left for Equador, and I planned to get in touch with you, but time got away from me. I left my job in the Spring, to take a year or two off to travel. I will be coming and going from Austin. Now, I am in Canada, visiting my family (Toronto and Ottawa). In November, I head off to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos for 3 months.

Your Equador experience sounds wonderful. I will check in on your blog again.

    Have a great time.

    regards, Kathryn C.

  2. Hi Luke – Today’s the first day of class and we miss your face here!! Paula has taken over your room. Do you know what the combo # is for the COW carts? If not, guess we’ll just cut them off.

  3. Good to climb with you this weekend Luke, glad to have found someone to get out with. Back to the gym this week, I think I’m healed enough to start training again. Let me know if you are heading to Rocodromo….

  4. Hi Joy and Luke,

My family and I are looking into moving back to Ecuador. My husband is from Quito and we met there 12 years ago when I was living in Quito and teaching at Colegio Americano. Here I am looking for a teaching job again and wondering what Academia Cotopaxi is like? I’ve been teaching elementary school in Berkeley CA since. What can you tell me about your school both as a teacher and for the kids? Have any comparisons to Americano? Our son is in Kinder now, so i’m thinking about a place we would both like to be. Thanks for any info.

  5. Any chance of giving me more details on how to get to franklin´s island in the san blas?

    • Sorry for the delay; this blog isn’t very active any more. We flew into the Carti airport — whatever the other airport was was not operating at the time of our visit. If you just show up at that airport you could probably find a boat to take you there, or you could make arrangements ahead of time with Franklin (phone numbers in the post). If you just show up, the boatmen might try to convince you to go to a different island, which might lead you on a different adventure, or you could insist you want Franklin’s Island. Hope that helps!
